Amritsar, October 15, 2026: A cloth trader was injured in a late-night shooting in Amritsar after two motorcycle-borne men allegedly attempted to snatch a bag containing money from him. Police moved quickly after the incident and later arrested four suspects believed to be connected with the case.

The injured businessman has been identified as Vishal Bhatia, who runs a clothing business in the city. The incident took place late on Wednesday night when the trader was at his establishment in the area near Gurdwara Baba Deep Singh Shaheedan Sahib.

According to the preliminary police account, two men arrived on a motorcycle and allegedly attempted to take away the trader's money bag. A confrontation followed, during which firing took place and Bhatia suffered an injury to his leg.

The attackers fled immediately after the incident. Bhatia was taken to hospital for treatment, while police teams reached the spot and began gathering information from the surrounding area.

CCTV cameras installed around the market became an important part of the investigation. Police examined footage from the area and began tracing the movements of those suspected of being involved before and after the attack.

Within hours of the shooting, police said four suspects had been taken into custody. Investigators also recovered a motorcycle allegedly used during the incident and a firearm believed to be connected with the case.

Police are now questioning the arrested suspects to establish the role of each person and determine whether they were involved in other similar incidents in Amritsar.

Investigators are also checking whether the trader had been specifically targeted or whether the incident was primarily an attempted robbery. At present, the available police version points towards an attempt to snatch the money bag.

Claims circulating on social media that the attack followed an extortion demand have not yet been established through the available police account. Any such connection would require confirmation through call records, previous complaints or other evidence gathered during the investigation.

Police are expected to examine the complete CCTV sequence, statements from the injured trader and witnesses, and other technical evidence before finalising the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The arrests have brought an early breakthrough in the case, but the allegations against those detained will still have to be established through investigation and the legal process.

Further details are expected once police complete the initial questioning and formally disclose the findings of the investigation.
