New Delhi/Jalandhar, October 4, 2026: Youth Congress Jalandhar Urban District President Angad Dutta met Punjab Congress in-charge Sachin Pilot in New Delhi on Sunday, with the two leaders holding discussions on strengthening the party organisation in Jalandhar, increasing the participation of young workers and preparing the grassroots structure ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.

The meeting comes at a time when the Congress is intensifying its organisational preparations in Punjab and seeking greater coordination between senior leadership, district units and workers at the booth and ward levels.

During the discussion, Dutta briefed Pilot about the organisational situation in Jalandhar Urban, including the role of Youth Congress workers and the need to build a stronger connection between the party and residents at the local level.

The two leaders also discussed ways to give young workers greater responsibility within the organisation and encourage their participation in public outreach and grassroots political activities.

Focus on Organisation, Not Ticket: Angad Dutta

Following the meeting, Angad Dutta said his immediate priority was strengthening the Congress organisation rather than seeking an election ticket or a personal position.

Dutta said he considers himself a party worker first and wants to work alongside grassroots members to build a stronger and more united organisation.

He said the focus ahead of the 2027 elections should be on ensuring that Congress workers remain active at the ground level and maintain regular contact with people in their respective areas.

According to Dutta, an election campaign cannot depend only on senior leaders or candidates. A strong network of booth-level and local workers is equally important for understanding public concerns and communicating the party’s position to voters.

Youth Workers Could Play Important Role in 2027

Youth participation formed an important part of the discussion.

Dutta said young Congress workers should be encouraged to take greater responsibility and participate actively in organisational activities rather than being mobilised only during elections.

He stressed the need to create opportunities for committed workers to work directly with residents, understand local issues and strengthen the organisation at ward and constituency levels.

Jalandhar has four urban-oriented Assembly constituencies—Jalandhar North, Central, West and Cantonment—and grassroots organisation across these areas is expected to remain important as political parties prepare for the next Assembly contest.

For Youth Congress leaders, this means building teams that can remain active well before the formal election campaign begins.

‘Whatever Responsibility Party Gives, I Will Perform It’

Dutta said he was willing to perform any responsibility assigned to him by the party leadership.

He maintained that his focus was not centred on a particular post but on helping create a disciplined and coordinated organisation in Jalandhar.

His message following the meeting was that workers should remain united and avoid allowing personal ambitions to overshadow organisational priorities.

Dutta said the objective should be to strengthen the Congress across Punjab and create an organisation capable of competing effectively in every constituency.

Sachin Pilot’s Punjab Role Gains Importance Ahead of Polls

Sachin Pilot’s role has become increasingly important as Congress begins preparing its Punjab strategy ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.

As the party’s Punjab in-charge, Pilot is expected to coordinate between the state leadership and the central organisation while engaging with district and grassroots leaders.

The Congress is currently going through a significant organisational phase in Punjab, with efforts being made to strengthen district structures and bring different levels of leadership onto a common platform ahead of the election.

Meetings with local and youth leaders are therefore likely to form an important part of that process.

For Jalandhar Urban, the focus will be on developing stronger coordination between the district organisation, Youth Congress units, Assembly-level teams and booth workers.

Dutta Thanks Pilot for Guidance

Angad Dutta thanked Sachin Pilot for taking time to discuss organisational matters relating to Jalandhar.

He said the interaction was encouraging for young workers and provided guidance on how the organisation could be strengthened in the months ahead.

Dutta also emphasised that the party’s preparations should remain centred on public issues and sustained grassroots engagement rather than becoming active only when elections approach.

The meeting indicates that Jalandhar’s local Congress leadership is beginning preparations well ahead of the 2027 Assembly election.

For Angad Dutta, the stated priority remains building a stronger Jalandhar Urban organisation, increasing opportunities for young workers and ensuring greater coordination between different levels of the party.

As political activity intensifies across Punjab in the coming months, the effectiveness of that grassroots preparation will become increasingly important for Congress and other parties seeking support in Jalandhar’s urban constituencies.
