Jalandhar, October 19, 2026: A daylight motorcycle theft in Jalandhar’s Adarsh Nagar area was captured on CCTV, with the footage showing a man taking away the parked vehicle in approximately 20 seconds.
The motorcycle belonged to Akhilesh, a generator mechanic who had travelled from the Sodhal area to Adarsh Nagar after being called to repair a generator that was not starting.
According to Akhilesh, he reached the location at around 9:30 am and parked his motorcycle outside before beginning his work. He said he had been periodically checking on the vehicle during the day. When he later stepped outside in the afternoon, he found that the motorcycle was missing. CCTV cameras installed near the property were then checked to determine what had happened.
The footage reportedly shows a man walking into the street at around 2:50 pm. He approaches the parked motorcycle and, within roughly 20 seconds, manages to take it away. The manner in which the motorcycle was removed initially gave the impression that the man was simply leaving with his own vehicle. It was only after the footage was examined closely that the theft became apparent.
Akhilesh told police that the person seen in the footage had allegedly made two or three rounds of the street before approaching the motorcycle, raising suspicion that he may have checked the surroundings before taking the vehicle. The victim said he had purchased the motorcycle around three to four years ago on instalments. Its sudden theft while he was at work has caused him considerable concern.
Police personnel reached the location after receiving information about the incident and examined the available CCTV footage. The face of the person seen taking the motorcycle is relatively visible in the recording, which could assist investigators in establishing his identity.
Akhilesh has subsequently submitted a complaint with Police Station Division No. 2, following which the matter is being examined.Investigators are expected to check additional CCTV cameras in nearby streets to determine the route taken after the motorcycle was removed and whether another person or vehicle was involved.
The identity of the person visible in the CCTV footage has not yet been officially established, and no arrest has been confirmed at this stage. The incident has once again highlighted concerns among residents over vehicle thefts taking place during daytime hours in busy residential areas of the city.
Further action will depend on the CCTV evidence and information gathered by police during the investigation.
