JALANDHAR, October 20, 2026: Jalandhar BJP Urban president Ashok Sareen Hicky met Union Home Minister Amit Shah during his visit to Punjab and placed issues concerning the state before the senior BJP leader.
The meeting came at a time when political activity in Punjab has intensified and issues surrounding drugs, organised crime, public safety and development have become increasingly prominent in political discussions across the state.
During his interaction with Shah, Sareen discussed the situation in Punjab and conveyed concerns being raised at the ground level. He also drew attention to issues that, according to the BJP’s local leadership, require stronger coordination and sustained action.
Sareen has in recent weeks been actively raising the issue of the drug menace in Punjab. The Jalandhar BJP unit has held protests and public programmes while demanding stronger action against drug networks and greater protection for people who speak against illegal activities.
The meeting with the Union Home Minister therefore carries significance for the Jalandhar unit, particularly as BJP leaders continue to take Punjab-related concerns before the party’s central leadership.
Amit Shah has also kept the drug issue at the centre of his recent engagements in Punjab. During his latest visit, he met families affected by drug-related incidents and reiterated the Centre’s focus on tackling narcotics and organised networks.
Sareen said issues connected with Punjab’s future and the concerns of ordinary residents need serious attention. The local BJP leadership has maintained that action against drugs must be accompanied by measures aimed at improving security and creating better opportunities for the younger generation.
The interaction also comes weeks after Shah addressed a major anti-drug rally in Jalandhar, where BJP leaders placed the drug problem at the heart of the party’s political campaign in the state. With Punjab moving closer to the 2027 Assembly election, meetings between district leaders and the BJP’s central leadership are also becoming increasingly important from an organisational perspective.
No detailed official statement outlining every point discussed between Sareen and Shah had been released at the time of writing. Further clarity is expected if the Jalandhar BJP unit issues a detailed account of the meeting.
