JALANDHAR, October 23, 2026: A vice chairman of the Punjab Brahmin Welfare Board was allegedly targeted in a firing incident in rural Jalandhar after motorcycle-borne assailants followed his car near Tehing village. The attackers fled shortly after the incident, while police later recovered three empty shells from the area.
According to the account given by the victim, he was travelling towards Goraya in his car to meet a friend when he noticed two men on a motorcycle following the vehicle. As the car approached the canal area near Tehing village, the motorcycle came closer and firing allegedly began.
The vice chairman told police that one of the men was wearing a tracksuit and was accompanied by another person on the motorcycle. The exact identity of the individuals and their role in the incident have not yet been established.
His security personnel were also present at the time. According to the information provided after the incident, the gunmen accompanying him fired warning shots in response, following which the motorcycle-borne men left the area.
Police teams reached the spot after receiving information and began examining the scene. Three empty cartridge cases were reportedly recovered and are expected to be examined as part of the investigation.
Investigators are also likely to study CCTV cameras installed along nearby roads and possible escape routes in an effort to trace the motorcycle and identify the individuals involved.
The vice chairman has claimed that he had received threats before Thursday’s incident. According to him, threatening messages had recently been sent to his mobile phone from an overseas number.
He has further alleged that he had earlier noticed suspicious surveillance around his movements and had already brought the matter to the attention of police.
The victim has linked those concerns to an earlier case involving an attack on the managing director of a colony. He claims that he had raised issues connected with that case and subsequently began receiving threats. Police, however, will have to establish through evidence whether the previous dispute, the alleged threats and Thursday’s firing are connected.
At this stage, the motive behind the firing remains under investigation. No individual should be considered responsible solely on the basis of allegations made after the incident.
Police are expected to examine call records, threatening messages, CCTV footage, forensic evidence from the recovered shells and statements of those present in the vehicle before determining the sequence of events and possible motive.
The incident has prompted concern because the victim had reportedly raised security-related complaints before the firing. Investigators will now examine whether those earlier complaints contain information relevant to identifying the people behind the latest incident.
Further clarity is expected once police complete the preliminary investigation and establish the identity of the motorcycle-borne individuals.
