JALANDHAR, October 23, 2026: A 26-year-old man lost his life and his friend was seriously injured after their car crashed into a roadside tree near Malsian in Jalandhar district. The accident occurred on the Shahkot-Nakodar route on Thursday afternoon.

The deceased has been identified as Lovepreet Singh, son of Kulwant Singh and a resident of Aidalpur village in Shahkot. His friend Rajanpreet Singh, son of Sarabjit Singh and a resident of Rame village, sustained serious injuries in the crash.

According to preliminary information, the two friends were travelling in a white car from Shahkot towards Nakodar. Shortly after crossing Malsian, the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle, following which the car veered off the road and struck a tree.

The impact caused extensive damage to the vehicle, trapping both occupants inside. People passing through the area stopped to help after noticing the wrecked car.

ASI Jagtar Singh, in-charge of Malsian Police Post, reached the spot along with Road Safety Force personnel Kulwinder Singh and Baljit Singh. With the assistance of local residents and a tractor, the damaged sections of the car were pulled apart so that the two men could be brought out.

Both injured men were initially taken to a nearby private hospital and were subsequently referred to Nakodar for further treatment.

Doctors in Nakodar declared Lovepreet Singh dead. Rajanpreet Singh, whose condition was reported to be serious, was later referred to Jalandhar for specialised medical care.

Police took Lovepreet Singh’s body into custody for the required legal formalities and kept it at the mortuary in Nakodar. His post-mortem was scheduled to be conducted on Friday, after which the body would be handed over to the family.

Police are recording statements from the family and examining the circumstances that led to the crash. Preliminary information indicated that the car was travelling at considerable speed before it lost control, although the precise cause of the accident will depend on the police inquiry.

The accident has once again highlighted the risks associated with losing control of vehicles on high-speed highway stretches, particularly where roadside trees and other fixed objects leave little margin for error.

Further legal proceedings in the case will be carried out on the basis of the family’s statements and the findings of the investigation.
