Jalandhar, September 30, 2026: Jalandhar police have registered a case against the son of a police official and several of his associates following allegations that a pistol was pointed at a minor during a dispute in the Aman Nagar area of Suranussi.
The accused has been identified as Amandeep Singh, who is currently residing in Aman Nagar. His father is an Assistant Sub-Inspector with Punjab Police and is reported to be serving as a gunman with a DSP.
According to the complaint submitted to police, the incident occurred when the minor was returning home after tuition. A disagreement allegedly began near the accused’s rented residence over the teenager travelling through the street on a two-wheeler.
The complainant alleged that the argument escalated and Amandeep subsequently brought out a pistol and pointed it towards the minor.
Local residents intervened during the confrontation, preventing the situation from escalating further.
It has also been alleged that some associates of the accused reached the area during the dispute and were carrying weapons. Police are examining these allegations as part of the investigation.
Following the complaint and preliminary inquiry, Police Station Division No. 1 registered a case against Amandeep Singh and his associates under relevant provisions of the Arms Act, 1959, including Sections 25 and 30, along with Section 351(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which relates to criminal intimidation.
No arrest had been reported in the case at the time of publication, and police efforts to investigate the circumstances and identify the role of each person named in the case are continuing.
The role of Amandeep’s father, who is serving as an ASI, may also come under departmental scrutiny.
Questions have been raised over allegations that the police official brought a vehicle belonging to the rural police jurisdiction into the commissionerate area while the dispute involving his son was unfolding. Authorities are expected to examine whether any departmental rules were violated.
The case had initially drawn attention after the minor’s family approached police seeking action over the alleged threat.
Police are now expected to examine statements from those present in the locality and other available evidence before taking further action.
The allegations against the accused and others remain subject to investigation, and responsibility will ultimately be determined through the legal process.
