No Dussehra at Burlton Park This Year; Jalandhar Committee Announces New Venue

Jalandhar’s traditional Dussehra celebration organised by Shri Ramlila Committee Nauhria Bazaar will shift from Burlton Park to the Industrial Area ground opposite Division No. 1 this year due to the development of sports grounds at Burlton Park.

Jalandhar, October 4, 2026: Residents accustomed to visiting Burlton Park for one of Jalandhar’s traditional Dussehra celebrations will need to head to a new location this year, with organisers deciding to shift the festival away from its familiar venue.

The 148th Dussehra celebration of Shri Ramlila Committee Nauhria Bazaar will be held on October 20 at the open ground in Industrial Area, opposite Police Division No. 1, Jalandhar.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the committee held at Shri Ram Lalla Temple in Nauhria Bazaar, where office-bearers discussed preparations for this year’s festival.

The meeting began with the recitation of Hanuman Chalisa by Mahant Raj Kumar Sharma.

Committee general secretary Ankush Handa announced that the traditional Dussehra event would not be organised at Burlton Park this year.

Why Has the Dussehra Venue Been Changed?

According to the committee, the primary reason for shifting the celebration is the development of sports grounds at Burlton Park.

With the park now increasingly being used for sporting infrastructure and activities, the committee decided to move the large-scale Dussehra programme to another open space capable of accommodating the festival arrangements and visitors.

The new location selected for the event is the open ground in Industrial Area directly opposite Division No. 1 Police Station.

The move is significant because Burlton Park has been closely associated with Dussehra celebrations in Jalandhar for years, and thousands of residents recognise it as one of the city’s traditional festival venues.

Organisers are therefore informing residents about the change well in advance so that visitors do not arrive at Burlton Park on the day of the celebration expecting the usual programme.

148th Dussehra Celebration on October 20

The committee has announced that the 148th edition of the Dussehra festival will take place on Tuesday, October 20.

Preparations for the event are expected to gather pace in the coming days, with arrangements required for the ceremonial programme, visitors, crowd movement and other festival activities at the new location.

Dussehra traditionally marks the victory of good over evil and is celebrated in Jalandhar with religious programmes and large public gatherings.

The Nauhria Bazaar committee’s celebration has remained part of the city’s annual festive calendar for generations.

Flag Procession on October 13

Before the main Dussehra programme, the committee will organise a traditional flag procession on October 13.

Committee secretary Hemant Sharma said the procession will begin from the temple at 4 PM.

The event will formally mark an important stage in the preparations leading up to the Dussehra celebration.

Nand Lal Sharma Re-Elected Committee President

During the meeting, Nand Lal Sharma was also chosen to lead the committee for another term.

He has been elected president for the ninth consecutive time, reflecting continuity in the organisation of the annual event.

Sharma thanked committee members for expressing confidence in his leadership and said preparations would be made for the successful organisation of the festival at the new venue.

Several committee members and office-bearers attended the meeting and discussed arrangements connected with the upcoming celebrations.

For Jalandhar residents, the most important change this year is straightforward: the traditional Burlton Park Dussehra organised by the committee will instead be celebrated at the Industrial Area ground opposite Division No. 1 Police Station.

Visitors planning to attend the October 20 celebration should therefore take note of the new location before heading out for the festival.
