Jalandhar, October 6, 2026: A house in the Gazi Gulla area of Jalandhar was targeted by a thief during the daytime, with the family reporting that gold jewellery and cash were taken while no one was at home. Police Station Division No. 2 reached the spot after receiving information and started investigating the incident.

According to the family, the house had been locked when family members left for work at around 11 am. When Chanchal, a family member, returned at around noon, she noticed money lying near the entrance and found the door open, raising suspicion that somebody had entered the house.

After calling a neighbour, she went inside and found household belongings scattered and the locker broken. The family said the intruder had searched through the house and taken valuable items before leaving. They also reported that cash kept in the home’s religious donation box was missing.

The family has estimated that jewellery worth around ₹8–9 lakh and approximately ₹25,000 in cash may have been stolen. However, the final value of the missing jewellery and cash had not been officially confirmed by police at the time of publication.

CCTV footage from the surrounding area reportedly captured a suspect walking away after the incident. The family claimed that the person appeared to be carrying a considerable amount of property while leaving the locality, and the footage is expected to assist investigators in identifying the suspect.

Police personnel from Division No. 2 inspected the location and began collecting information from the family and nearby residents. CCTV cameras installed in surrounding streets are also expected to be examined to establish the suspect’s route before and after the theft.

The family has urged police to identify the person involved and recover the stolen jewellery and cash at the earliest. Residents of the area have also expressed concern over theft incidents and called for increased police patrolling in residential neighbourhoods.

The exact amount of the loss and other circumstances surrounding the incident will become clearer after police complete verification of the family’s inventory, CCTV footage and other evidence collected during the investigation.
