Jalandhar, October 5, 2026: A family dispute involving an adopted daughter has reached the police in Jalandhar after a Guru Nanak Colony resident alleged that his daughter was being mistreated after being adopted within the extended family.

The complainant, Jaswinder Singh, approached Police Station Division No. 5 along with his daughter and submitted a complaint seeking police intervention.

According to Jaswinder, he had earlier allowed his daughter to be adopted by his brother under a family arrangement.

He alleged that he later came to know that the girl was facing inappropriate treatment in the household where she had been living.

After learning about the situation, Jaswinder said he brought his daughter with him and approached the police.

Allegations of Assault and Threats

The complaint reportedly contains allegations relating to physical mistreatment and threats.

Jaswinder has sought an investigation into the circumstances in which his daughter was allegedly treated and has requested appropriate action against anyone found responsible.

At this stage, these remain allegations made by the complainant, and responsibility can only be established after police examine the statements and available evidence.

The version of the other side of the family was not immediately available.

Family Adoption Arrangement at Centre of Dispute

The case is particularly sensitive because the dispute involves an adoption arrangement between close relatives.

According to the complainant, his daughter had been given in adoption to his brother, apparently with the understanding that she would be cared for as a member of that household.

The relationship later became a source of concern after allegations regarding the girl’s treatment emerged.

Jaswinder said that once he became aware of the alleged situation, he decided to intervene and take the matter to police rather than allowing the dispute to remain within the family.

Police Complaint Submitted

Jaswinder reached Division No. 5 Police Station with his daughter and placed his allegations before police officials.

Police are expected to examine the complaint, record relevant statements and determine what further legal action, if any, is warranted.

At the time of publication, The Jalandhar Times could not independently confirm that an FIR had been registered in connection with the complaint.

For that reason, the matter should currently be described as a police complaint rather than a registered criminal case unless authorities subsequently confirm an FIR.

Girl’s Welfare Remains Priority

Cases involving children and family disputes require particular care because the immediate priority is the safety and welfare of the child concerned.

Any allegations involving mistreatment need to be assessed carefully while protecting the girl’s privacy and dignity.

For this reason, identifying details of the daughter are being withheld.

Police may also examine the circumstances surrounding the adoption arrangement and determine whether any additional documentation or statements are required as part of their inquiry.

Investigation Will Establish Facts

The complaint has now brought what was reportedly an internal family dispute before law-enforcement authorities.

Police will have to establish what occurred, speak with the parties involved and determine whether the allegations are supported by evidence.

Until that process is completed, no person named or accused in the complaint should be treated as guilty.

Further clarity is expected once Division No. 5 Police confirm the status of the complaint and whether formal legal proceedings have been initiated.

For now, Jaswinder Singh has sought police intervention over the alleged treatment of his daughter, and the matter remains under examination.
