Jalandhar, October 24: Jalandhar Police have taken action against a young man after a video showing him in an apparently intoxicated condition in the Bhargo Camp area went viral on social media. The footage, which showed the youth struggling to maintain his balance on a public road, raised concerns among local residents about suspected drug abuse in the locality. Following the video's circulation, police identified the youth as Varun, a resident of Bhargo Camp, and took him into custody.
The incident came to public attention when some youngsters recorded Varun appearing disoriented and struggling to stand properly. The video soon began circulating on social media, drawing reactions from residents and political representatives. The disturbing condition of the young man prompted renewed discussion about the availability of illegal drugs and their impact on young people in Jalandhar West. However, the footage alone does not establish what caused his condition.
According to the information available, police located Varun following the circulation of the video and reportedly recovered a suspected narcotic substance from his possession. Based on the alleged recovery, police registered a case against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The exact nature and quantity of the recovered substance have not been specified in the available details.
Police records reportedly indicate that Varun had previously been named in another criminal case and had spent time in Kapurthala Jail. The circumstances of the earlier case and its legal outcome remain unclear. The latest case is also subject to investigation, and the allegations against him have yet to be established in court.
The video gained further attention after former Jalandhar West MLA Sheetal Angural shared it on social media and expressed concern over the situation. His post brought wider attention to the incident and prompted public discussion about drug-related problems in the constituency. Residents have also been expressing concerns about the impact of suspected narcotics activity on neighbourhood safety and the well-being of young people.
The incident has once again brought the issue of substance abuse in Jalandhar into focus. Alongside police action against suspected illegal drug possession and trafficking, the situation highlights the importance of timely medical assistance, awareness and rehabilitation support for individuals affected by substance use.
Police are continuing their investigation into the alleged recovery and the circumstances surrounding the incident. Further information regarding the registered case and any additional legal proceedings is awaited.
