Jalandhar, October 1, 2026: Jalandhar Police Commissioner Satinder Singh has directed police officers and personnel to intensify action against drug trafficking while appealing to young people to stay away from narcotics and support efforts to build a drug-free society.

The Police Commissioner said drug abuse not only damages an individual’s health and future but also has serious consequences for families and the wider community.

He stressed that protecting young people from substance abuse requires combined efforts from police, families, educational institutions and society.

Police have been instructed to strengthen surveillance in their respective areas and keep a close watch on individuals suspected of supplying or distributing narcotics.

Officers have also been directed to identify suspicious activities connected with drug trafficking and take strict legal action wherever evidence of illegal activity is found.

The Commissioner said the fight against drugs is being pursued on two fronts — awareness and enforcement.

While police action is being strengthened against supply networks, efforts are also being made to encourage young people to understand the health, social and personal consequences associated with drug abuse.

Satinder Singh appealed to parents and guardians to remain attentive to significant changes in the behaviour and activities of young family members and to provide timely guidance and support where concerns arise.

Teachers and educational institutions have also been encouraged to play an active role in awareness efforts, particularly because schools and colleges can help young people understand the risks associated with substance abuse before problems develop.

Social and community organisations can also contribute by organising awareness programmes and helping connect vulnerable individuals with appropriate support and rehabilitation services.

Commissionerate Police Jalandhar has been carrying out continued enforcement action under the wider anti-drug drive, including the registration of cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and investigations aimed at tracing supply networks.

Police have also been focusing on the financial and logistical links behind drug trafficking rather than limiting investigations only to individual recoveries.

The Commissioner has made it clear to police teams that action against drug trafficking should be carried out strictly in accordance with the law and that officers must remain vigilant in areas where suspicious activity is reported.

Authorities have also appealed to residents to cooperate with police and share credible information about suspected drug trafficking in their neighbourhoods.

The Commissioner said meaningful progress against the drug problem requires participation from both law-enforcement agencies and the public.

Jalandhar Police are expected to continue a combination of enforcement, intelligence gathering, public awareness and preventive measures as part of the effort to curb the supply and consumption of illegal drugs across the city.
