Jalandhar October 19, 2026 : A family from Rasta Mohalla has approached the police after alleging that ₹50,000 was withdrawn from their post office account without their knowledge. The family has accused a relative of being involved in the withdrawal and has also submitted a complaint to the Police Commissioner seeking an investigation and appropriate action.
Kanchan, a member of the affected family, said they visited the post office on October 9 to withdraw money required for her father’s eye operation. However, according to the family, post office staff informed them that ₹50,000 had already been withdrawn from the account on October 7 at around 11:40 am.
The family claimed that none of its members had visited the post office to make the withdrawal on that day. Kanchan said the account had been maintained with the post office for nearly 15 to 16 years and that the unexpected transaction came as a shock to them.
According to the complainants, they subsequently informed the police, following which a team from Police Station Division No. 3 began looking into the matter. The family said statements connected with the transaction were also being examined as part of the inquiry.
The complainants have alleged that their aunt, identified by them as Anuradha, was involved in withdrawing the money. They further alleged that their passbook was taken without their knowledge and that suspected forged documents were used to complete the transaction. These allegations have not yet been independently established and remain subject to police investigation.
Kanchan said the family does not know how the passbook allegedly reached the accused person. The family has demanded that the money be recovered and returned to them, or that legal action be initiated against anyone found responsible after the investigation.
ASI Manwinder Singh of Police Station Division No. 3 said a complaint had been received from Balwinder Kaur regarding the withdrawal of ₹50,000 from the post office account. He said the statements of the family have been recorded and that statements of the concerned post office employees will also be taken before further action is initiated on the basis of the findings.
Police are currently examining the allegations, and responsibility in the matter will be determined after the inquiry is completed.
