Jalandhar, October 2, 2026: Jalandhar Rural Police have been directed to further strengthen action against drug trafficking and other criminal activities, with SSP Harvinder Singh Virk asking officers to maintain close surveillance in their respective areas and improve coordination with local communities.

The police leadership has placed particular emphasis on identifying people involved in the supply and distribution of narcotics and taking strict legal action wherever evidence of illegal activity is found.

Police officers have also been instructed to keep a close watch on habitual offenders, proclaimed offenders and people previously booked in serious criminal cases.

Special checking operations, nakabandi and night patrols are being used to increase police presence in sensitive areas and deter criminal activity.

SSP Virk has stressed that effective policing should not depend only on enforcement after an offence has taken place. Officers have been asked to focus equally on intelligence gathering and preventive action so that suspicious activities can be detected at an early stage.

An important part of the strategy involves Village Defence Committees (VDCs).

Station House Officers have been directed to hold regular meetings with committee members in villages falling under their respective jurisdictions.

The objective is to strengthen communication between residents and police and ensure that information about suspected drug trafficking, criminal activity or other unusual developments reaches law-enforcement teams quickly.

Village-level participation is being viewed as particularly important in rural areas, where residents often have first-hand knowledge of activities taking place within their local communities.

Committee members are being encouraged to share credible information with police while also helping spread awareness among young people about the harmful effects of drug abuse.

The police have also stressed the need to connect people affected by substance abuse with treatment and rehabilitation instead of viewing every drug-related situation only through the lens of criminal enforcement.

At the same time, officers have been told that there will be no leniency towards people involved in the commercial supply or organised trafficking of illegal narcotics.

The SSP has also directed police teams to speed up investigations in pending criminal cases and ensure that FIRs are investigated in a timely and professional manner.

Traffic enforcement, checking of suspicious vehicles and monitoring of sensitive locations are also part of the wider crime-prevention plan.

Jalandhar Rural Police have been conducting special search and checking operations across different subdivisions as part of their continuing effort against drug trafficking, gang activity and other organised crime.

Police have appealed to residents to cooperate with law-enforcement agencies and immediately report credible information about suspicious or illegal activity.

The broader strategy combines strict enforcement, stronger village-level intelligence, regular police-public interaction and preventive policing as authorities work to improve law and order across rural Jalandhar.
