JALANDHAR, October 23, 2026: A woman from Jammu was found dead inside a room at Oval Hut Hotel in Jalandhar on Friday, prompting an investigation by Division No. 7 Police and a forensic team.

The woman has been identified as Shehnaz, a resident of Jammu. According to preliminary information available to police, she had come to Jalandhar in connection with employment and had been working here for around 25 days.

Hotel staff alerted the police after the woman was found unresponsive inside the room. A team from Police Station Division No. 7 reached the hotel shortly afterwards and secured the area while forensic personnel examined the scene.

Police have taken custody of the body and initiated the required legal proceedings. Arrangements were also made to shift the body to the hospital mortuary, where further medical examination will assist investigators in establishing the precise cause of death.

Investigators are questioning hotel employees and examining the circumstances surrounding Shehnaz’s stay at the property. Police are also expected to review available CCTV footage and other relevant material as part of the inquiry.

Initial information available to investigators is examining the possibility of self-harm, but police have not yet established what led to the woman’s death or whether any other circumstances contributed to it. The final cause should therefore not be treated as confirmed until the medical and police investigation is completed.

The station in-charge said the woman had arrived in Jalandhar for work only a few weeks earlier. Her family in Jammu has been informed about the incident.

Police are now working to establish her recent movements, the people she had been in contact with and whether she had communicated any concerns before her death. Statements from hotel staff and other relevant individuals are also being recorded.

No note or confirmed reason behind the death has been officially disclosed at this stage. Investigators are keeping the inquiry open while awaiting further medical and forensic findings.

Further action in the case will depend on the evidence collected during the investigation and the findings of the medical examination.
