Khanna, October 5, 2026: Khanna Police have arrested a serving Punjab Police constable after allegedly recovering 10 grams of heroin from his possession, in an action that has drawn attention because the accused himself was serving in the police force.
The arrested constable has been identified as Arun Sharma, who was posted in the Khanna area.
Police said the action was taken following information regarding his alleged involvement with narcotics. A police team subsequently carried out an operation and took the constable into custody.
A case has been registered at Police Station City-2, Khanna, and further investigation is underway.
10 Grams Allegedly Recovered
According to the preliminary police version, around 10 grams of heroin was recovered from Arun Sharma during the operation.
Investigators are now examining how the substance allegedly reached him and whether any other people were involved.
Police are also expected to examine his contacts and other evidence to determine whether the matter was limited to alleged personal possession or whether a wider supply link existed.
Any allegation regarding drug distribution remains subject to investigation and should not be considered established until supported by evidence and the legal process.
Police Act Against Their Own Employee
The arrest is significant because the accused is a member of Punjab Police.
The action indicates that departmental status did not prevent police from initiating criminal proceedings when allegations involving narcotics surfaced.
The investigation could also lead to separate departmental proceedings in accordance with service rules.
Further decisions regarding suspension or other disciplinary measures would depend on the competent authority and the progress of the criminal case.
Separate Action Against Home Guard Personnel
In another anti-drug operation in the Khanna area, police also detained a Punjab Home Guard personnel identified as Prince along with two other men.
The other two arrested individuals have been identified as Shamshad Mohammad, a resident of Ikolaha, and Inderjit Singh of Harbanspura village.
Police said the three were found together during an operation involving suspected drug consumption.
At the time they were detained, officers reportedly did not initially know that Prince was serving with the Punjab Home Guard.
His service background emerged during subsequent verification.
Dope Test Reported Positive
Police later took Prince to Civil Hospital, Khanna, where he underwent a dope test.
According to police, the test returned positive.
Prince was reportedly posted at a railway police post in Khanna.
Police have initiated legal proceedings against those detained in the case, while the circumstances surrounding the alleged drug use are being investigated.
Investigation Into Possible Links
In the case involving constable Arun Sharma, investigators are expected to examine the source of the alleged heroin and determine whether other individuals were involved.
Drug cases are often investigated beyond the immediate recovery to establish possible backward and forward links.
This can include examining who allegedly supplied the substance and whether it was intended for further distribution.
However, no wider trafficking network involving the constable had been conclusively established at the time of publication.
Allegations Must Be Established Through Legal Process
Although police have made arrests and reported a recovery, the accused remain entitled to due legal process.
The alleged recovery and other claims will need to be supported by evidence during investigation and subsequent court proceedings.
Similarly, claims that the constable had been consuming or selling narcotics over an extended period should be treated as allegations unless formally established.
Anti-Drug Drive Continues
The two actions come amid continued anti-narcotics enforcement across Punjab.
Police have increasingly focused on identifying both drug suppliers and individuals connected with local distribution networks.
The arrest of a serving constable is likely to face particular scrutiny because law-enforcement personnel are expected to uphold the same laws they enforce.
For now, Arun Sharma has been arrested following an alleged recovery of 10 grams of heroin, while the separate Home Guard case involves Prince and two other individuals.
Further details are expected as Khanna Police complete their investigation and determine whether additional people are linked to either case.
