MOHALI/JALANDHAR, October 19, 2026: Mohali Police have arrested three men from Jalandhar district in connection with a firing outside the residence of a property dealer in Baltana, Zirakpur. Investigators are also examining the suspects’ alleged links with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang as the probe expands into the motive and planning behind the attack.
The arrested men have been identified as Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi, 32, Manraj Singh alias Manna, 21, and Rajveer Singh, 18. All three belong to different villages in Jalandhar district.
The case relates to an incident in the early hours of October 14, when assailants travelling in a Swift car allegedly opened fire outside the residence of property dealer Ram Kumar in Baltana. Police said around eight rounds were fired before the attackers left the area.
The investigation gained momentum after police teams began tracing the movements connected with the vehicle and examining technical evidence linked to the incident. Special teams from the CIA Staff, Kharar, and Mohali Operations Cell worked together to identify the suspects and reconstruct their movements.
Police say a threatening call was also received after the firing in which the name of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang was allegedly invoked and an extortion demand was made. Investigators are now trying to establish whether the call, the firing and the three arrested men were part of the same organised plan.
During the investigation, police recovered a 9mm pistol, a Swift car allegedly used during the incident and a mobile phone which, according to investigators, was used to record video of the firing.
The mobile phone and other digital evidence are expected to be examined to determine who recorded the incident, where the material was sent and whether anyone else was directing or coordinating the alleged operation.
Police have also identified the three arrested suspects as residents of villages falling in Jalandhar district. Gurpreet Singh is from the Goraya area, while Manraj Singh and Rajveer Singh are also residents of the district.
Investigators are questioning the suspects to establish how they allegedly came into possession of the weapon and vehicle, whether anyone provided logistical assistance and whether additional people were involved before or after the firing.
The alleged connection with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has not yet been established as a judicial finding. Police are examining that angle on the basis of the threatening communication and evidence gathered during the investigation.
The arrests came within days of the Baltana firing, but several aspects of the case remain under investigation, including the exact motive, the source of the weapon and the role, if any, of handlers operating outside Punjab.
Police are also working to determine whether the firing was intended primarily to create fear for an alleged extortion demand or whether another motive was involved.
The three arrested men will be subject to the normal legal process, and the allegations against them will have to be established through evidence before a court.
Further disclosures are expected as investigators examine the seized phone, vehicle and other technical evidence and question the suspects about possible associates.
