Jalandhar, October 22: Concerns over open drug abuse have once again surfaced along the Jalandhar-Phillaur route after two youths were allegedly spotted injecting drugs in an open area. Local residents reportedly noticed the activity and captured the incident on camera, raising fresh questions over drug-related activity in the area.
According to residents, the youths were seen sitting near vegetation along the roadside while allegedly using injectable drugs. The incident has caused concern among people living and travelling through the area, particularly because the activity was reportedly taking place openly during the day.
Residents claimed that the location has gradually become a gathering point for people suspected of consuming drugs. They alleged that such activity has been noticed in the area on earlier occasions as well, creating fear among nearby residents and commuters.
People from the area have demanded stronger police patrolling and regular checks at locations where suspected drug consumption is repeatedly reported. They said that visible enforcement could help discourage people from gathering at isolated roadside spots for illegal activities.
The incident has also highlighted the wider challenge of drug abuse in Punjab, where authorities have been carrying out anti-drug campaigns, searches and awareness drives. Residents, however, say ground-level monitoring remains equally important, particularly in locations identified by locals as possible hotspots.
No independent confirmation regarding the identity of the two youths or the substance allegedly being used was available at the time of reporting. The Jalandhar Times is therefore reporting the incident on the basis of the visual material and claims made by local residents.
Residents have urged the concerned police authorities to verify the location, investigate the incident and increase surveillance along the Jalandhar-Phillaur route to prevent similar activity in the future.
