Tarn Taran, 30 September : An undertrial prisoner lodged at the Central Jail in Goindwal Sahib, Tarn Taran district, has died by suicide, prompting jail authorities and police to begin an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
According to preliminary information, jail staff found the prisoner in a critical condition inside the prison premises and immediately shifted him to the government hospital in Tarn Taran for medical treatment.
Doctors at the hospital examined him and declared him dead.
Following the incident, the concerned police authorities were informed and the necessary legal proceedings were initiated. Investigators are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the death and record statements from jail officials and others as part of the inquiry.
