Jalandhar, October 1, 2026: Innocent Hearts Group commemorated the birth anniversaries of Mahatma Gandhi and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri across its five school campuses and College of Education with a series of educational, cultural and cleanliness-focused activities.

The celebrations were organised at the Green Model Town, Loharan, Cantt.-Jandiala Road, Noorpur Road and Kapurthala Road campuses, with students from different age groups participating enthusiastically.

Young learners from the pre-primary and primary wings dressed as Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri and paid tribute to the two national leaders by offering floral garlands to their portraits.

Interactive storytelling sessions and audio-visual presentations were organised to introduce children to important moments from Mahatma Gandhi’s life and help them understand his principles of truth, non-violence, simplicity and service to society.

The programme also highlighted the importance Gandhi placed on cleanliness. Senior students participated in a campus cleanliness drive and worked together to promote clean and hygienic surroundings.

Students also took a collective Swachhata Pledge, reaffirming their commitment to cleanliness, truth, non-violence and responsible citizenship.

The celebrations extended to Innocent Hearts College of Education, where the NSS unit promoted the message of “Swachhata Hi Seva” through a street play.

NSS volunteers Kavita Giri, Mansha Vij, Ekta and Shikha Kapoor participated in the performance, using the medium of theatre to spread awareness about cleanliness and civic responsibility.

Student-teachers also organised poster-making activities based on Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings, allowing participants to creatively express messages of peace, social responsibility and cleanliness.

Awareness talks on Solid Waste Management Rules were delivered during the assembly under the theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag, Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat.”

The sessions encouraged students to understand the importance of proper waste management and the role individuals can play in building cleaner communities.

The activities were designed not only to remember Gandhi and Shastri but also to help students connect their teachings with everyday life.

Through cleanliness drives, creative activities, storytelling, role play and awareness programmes, students were encouraged to adopt values such as honesty, simplicity, discipline, non-violence, responsibility and service to the nation.

The celebrations concluded with a message encouraging young learners to follow the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri and contribute towards building a cleaner, more responsible and compassionate society.
