Jalandhar 14 October 2026: Bharatiya Janata Party workers staged a protest in Jalandhar on Wednesday over the killing of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota in Mansa. During the demonstration, party workers burnt an effigy of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and raised slogans while questioning the state government over law and order and the continuing challenge of drugs in Punjab.

BJP leaders participating in the protest alleged that Jhota’s killing had raised serious concerns about the safety of people speaking out against the drug menace. They questioned how an activist publicly campaigning against the alleged illegal sale of intoxicating substances could be targeted and demanded that those responsible for the crime be dealt with strictly under the law.

The protesters also targeted the Punjab government over its handling of law and order. BJP representatives alleged that incidents of crime and drug-related activity had created concern among residents and said the government should ensure the protection of citizens who come forward with information regarding illegal activities. These statements were political allegations made by the protesting leaders.

The protest in Jalandhar formed part of demonstrations organised by the BJP across different districts of Punjab following Jhota’s death. Party leaders have also demanded a thorough investigation into the case and accountability for any person found responsible for helping or protecting those involved.

Parvinder Singh Jhota was known for campaigning against drug abuse and for publicly raising allegations about the illegal sale of intoxicating medicines. His killing in Mansa triggered protests and strong reactions across Punjab, with political parties and social organisations demanding justice for his family.

Police have arrested the main accused in connection with the killing from Rajasthan, and further investigation into the case is underway. Authorities are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident and the sequence of events that led to Jhota’s death.

The Jalandhar protest concluded with BJP workers demanding swift justice in the Jhota case and stronger action against drugs and organised criminal activity. Police personnel remained present during the demonstration to maintain law and order.
