Jalandhar, October 9, 2026: A daylight snatching incident in the busy Sadar Bazaar area of Jalandhar Cantt has raised fresh safety concerns after two unidentified scooter-borne men allegedly snatched a woman’s bag and fled from the spot.
The incident took place on Wednesday, October 7, in Gali No. 10 of Sadar Bazaar, one of the main commercial stretches in the cantonment area. The woman was walking through the market when the two suspects approached her on a scooter.
CCTV footage from the area shows the scooter approaching the woman before one of the riders allegedly grabbed her bag. The suspects then accelerated away from the spot before people nearby could stop them.
The woman raised an alarm immediately after the incident, prompting shopkeepers and passers-by to gather at the scene. By the time people understood what had happened, the scooter-borne suspects had already moved away from the area.
Local police were informed about the incident and reached the market to begin an investigation. Officers have started examining CCTV recordings from shops and buildings located along the route in an effort to identify the two suspects.
Investigators are also expected to examine footage from adjoining streets to determine the direction in which the scooter travelled after the snatching and whether its registration number or other identifying details can be established.
At present, the contents and value of the bag have not been officially confirmed. The identity of the woman has also not been disclosed in the information available so far.
No arrest had been officially announced at the time of publication. Police action will depend on identification of the suspects through CCTV footage and other evidence gathered from the area.
The incident has caused concern among traders and residents because Sadar Bazaar remains one of the busiest market areas in Jalandhar Cantt, with regular movement of shoppers, local residents and visitors throughout the day.
Jalandhar Cantt is also generally regarded as a closely monitored cantonment area, making a daylight snatching in a busy commercial market particularly concerning for local residents.
People in the area have called for increased police patrolling around markets and adjoining streets, particularly during peak hours when pedestrian movement is high.
Residents have also urged authorities to keep a closer watch on suspicious vehicles and individuals moving repeatedly through crowded market areas.
The CCTV footage is expected to be an important part of the investigation, and police are working to identify the suspects and establish their movement before and after the incident.
Further details are expected once investigators analyse the available footage and record additional statements from the victim and witnesses.
