Jalandhar, October 8, 2026: Jalandhar Commissionerate Police have arrested two men in connection with pro-Khalistan graffiti found on the outer wall of Red Cross Bhawan in the city last month. Police have alleged that the two accused were operating on behalf of the banned organisation Sikhs for Justice (SFJ).
The arrested men have been identified as Sukhpreet Singh and Rajdeep Singh, both residents of Nihaluwal village in Jalandhar Rural. Commissioner of Police Satinder Singh said both accused have previous criminal cases registered against them, including cases under the Arms Act and the NDPS Act.
Police have also recovered a Hero Splendor motorcycle which investigators allege was used by the two men while carrying out the graffiti incident.
The case relates to pro-Khalistan slogans that were discovered on the outer wall of Red Cross Bhawan in Jalandhar on September 29, 2026. Following the incident, a video relating to the graffiti was circulated on social media by SFJ figure Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, according to police.
After the slogans were discovered, Commissionerate Police registered an FIR and began an investigation under the supervision of DCP City Aditya Warrier and DCP Investigation Manpreet Singh Dhillon.
Commissioner of Police Satinder Singh said investigation teams examined available evidence and subsequently identified Sukhpreet Singh and Rajdeep Singh as suspects. Both men were later arrested and taken into custody for further questioning.
During interrogation, police claim the two accused also disclosed their alleged involvement in the vandalism of a statue of Bharat Ratna Dr B.R. Ambedkar at Barian Kalan village near Chabbewal in Hoshiarpur district.
The Ambedkar statue incident occurred during the intervening night of September 14 and 15, when unidentified persons damaged the statue installed in the village. The incident had triggered protests and demands for the immediate identification and arrest of those responsible.
A separate case, FIR No. 130 dated September 15, 2026, had already been registered at Chabbewal Police Station under Section 298 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita in connection with the vandalism.
Police are now examining whether the two incidents were connected and whether other people assisted the accused in planning, financing or carrying out the alleged acts.
In connection with the Red Cross Bhawan graffiti incident, FIR No. 301 dated September 29, 2026 has been registered at Police Division No. 6 in Jalandhar under Sections 147, 152, 196 and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 66F of the Information Technology Act.
Investigators are also examining the alleged communication links of the accused and attempting to determine whether they were acting on instructions from other individuals. Police said the investigation will focus on both backward and forward linkages connected with the case.
The two accused are expected to be produced before a local court, where police will seek their remand for further questioning and investigation.
Commissioner of Police Satinder Singh said investigators will also attempt to identify any additional associates who may have been involved in the alleged conspiracy.
The allegations against Sukhpreet Singh and Rajdeep Singh remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings. Their alleged association with SFJ and their involvement in the two incidents will have to be established through evidence before the competent court.
