Jalandhar, October 8, 2026: Police conducted a raid at a house in Jalandhar’s Phagwara Gate area on Thursday following information about suspected betting activity, rounding up 14 people and taking electronic devices and documents into possession for examination.

According to preliminary information, police received a tip-off that alleged betting slips and related activity were being handled from a house in the area. Acting on the information, a police team reached the premises and carried out a search.

During the operation, police rounded up 14 people who were present at the location. All of them were taken to the police station for questioning as investigators began examining their individual roles and the activity allegedly being conducted from the premises.

Police also took possession of a computer, four mobile phones, documents and other material found during the search. The electronic devices and records are expected to be examined as part of the investigation.

Inspector Jagdish Lal confirmed the police action and said the raid had been conducted in connection with information regarding suspected betting activity. He said 14 people had been rounded up and were being questioned at the police station.

According to information available so far, police had received inputs that betting-related slips were allegedly being handled from the premises. Investigators are now examining the seized material to determine the nature and scale of any unlawful activity.

The police action created considerable activity in the Phagwara Gate locality as officers searched the premises and escorted those rounded up from the spot.

Images from the scene showed police personnel carrying out the operation and taking several individuals for questioning. Some of those present were seen covering their faces while being taken away.

At this stage, police have described the 14 individuals as having been rounded up for inquiry. It would therefore be premature to describe all of them as arrested or to attribute criminal responsibility to them before investigators complete questioning and establish their alleged roles.

Police are also expected to examine the mobile phones, computer records and documents recovered during the raid to determine whether they contain evidence relevant to the suspected betting operation.

No final figure regarding alleged financial transactions or cash recovery had been officially confirmed in the latest available information.

Investigators will decide further legal action after examining the recovered material and recording statements from those taken for questioning.

The case remains under investigation, and further details are expected once police determine whether offences are made out against any of the individuals rounded up during the raid.
