Jalandhar, October 16, 2026: A major accident was narrowly avoided in Jalandhar on Friday morning after a school bus carrying around 10 children went out of control and crashed into the main gate of a house in the Sodhal Industrial Area.

One child reportedly suffered a minor injury in the collision, while the other students escaped without serious harm. The front portion of the bus was badly damaged in the impact, while the gate of the house was broken and cracks reportedly appeared in parts of the boundary wall.

The accident occurred while the bus was travelling from the underbridge towards the Industrial Area. According to the bus driver’s account, a pickup vehicle suddenly appeared at the intersection, forcing him to take evasive action.

The driver claimed that he attempted to avoid hitting the pickup but lost control of the bus while applying the brakes. The vehicle then moved towards the roadside property and crashed into its gate.

The driver has maintained that the bus was not being driven at excessive speed. His account of how the accident occurred, including the alleged involvement of the pickup vehicle, remains subject to examination as authorities look into the incident.

The homeowner, Rajwant Kaur, was reportedly inside the property when the crash occurred. A car parked within the premises narrowly escaped being struck by the school bus.

The collision caused considerable concern in the neighbourhood, particularly because children were travelling in the vehicle at the time. Local residents gathered near the spot after hearing the impact.

Following the accident, the school management was informed and another bus was sent to the location. The children were subsequently transferred to the replacement vehicle.

The affected family has also raised concerns about traffic safety at the intersection, claiming that accidents have occurred in the area earlier as well. They have called for measures such as speed breakers to reduce the risk of similar incidents.

Police Station No. 1 was informed about the accident. The circumstances leading to the collision, including the driver’s version regarding the pickup vehicle, can be assessed as part of any further police inquiry.

The incident once again highlights the importance of road safety around school transport routes, where even a sudden traffic manoeuvre can place several children at risk.
