Jalandhar, October 8, 2026: A dispute between two students at a school in Jalandhar’s New Prithvi Nagar area turned into a physical confrontation, leaving a Class 10 student injured and requiring hospital treatment. The incident has also led to a dispute between the student’s family and the school administration over the circumstances of the clash and medical expenses.
The incident reportedly took place on October 6 at Twinkle Model High School, where a Class 10 student and a Class 9 student became involved in an argument over a classroom bench.
According to the injured student’s father, his son had reached school early and was arranging benches in the classroom when the disagreement began. He alleged that the other student attacked his son with classroom chairs following the argument.
The injured student was subsequently taken to hospital, where he underwent surgery. His family said he suffered a serious abdominal injury and required 22 stitches following treatment.
The student’s father has also alleged that the school administration initially assured the family that it would assist with treatment expenses but later declined to bear the cost. The allegation has not been independently established and forms part of the dispute between the family and school authorities.
On Thursday, members of the student’s family reached the school seeking answers over the incident and the treatment expenses. The situation became tense, following which students were reportedly sent home and the school gate was closed.
A school representative confirmed that an altercation had taken place between two students and that one of them had sustained injuries requiring hospitalisation. The school said the student’s condition was stable following treatment.
The school representative, however, disputed the family’s version regarding financial assistance and said pressure was being placed on the institution over the issue. The differing claims from the family and school have not yet been independently resolved.
Police have now stepped into the matter and called the families of both students to record their statements. Further action is expected after officers hear both sides and examine the circumstances that led to the confrontation.
The incident has also raised questions over student supervision and safety inside school premises, particularly when disagreements between children begin to escalate.
As both students involved are minors, the matter requires careful handling by the school, families and authorities. The immediate priority remains the injured student’s recovery while police establish the sequence of events and determine whether any further legal or administrative action is required.
No final finding regarding responsibility had been announced by police at the time of publication. Further developments are expected after statements from both families and the school administration are examined.
