Mansa, October 16, 2026: The action committee formed to seek justice following the killing of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhota has announced a statewide protest programme for October 19, under which demonstrations will be held outside the residences and offices of Aam Aadmi Party MLAs and ministers across Punjab.
The announcement was made following a meeting of the committee on Friday. Committee representatives said supporters would stage peaceful protests outside the premises of AAP legislators and ministers as part of their continuing campaign over the Jhota case.
The committee also said that letters expressing condemnation and raising its demands would be displayed outside the residences and offices during the demonstrations. Organisers said the October 19 programme is intended to put pressure on the Punjab government to address issues raised by Jhota’s family and the action committee.
According to committee representatives, several demands connected with the case remain unresolved. They have sought further action in the investigation and called for greater accountability in connection with the circumstances surrounding Jhota’s killing.
The committee has also demanded that a memorial be established in Parvinder Singh Jhota’s name. Among the proposals being raised are the construction of a stadium or a trauma centre in Mansa district as a tribute to his anti-drug campaign.
Another demand relates to financial assistance for people injured in the firing incident. The committee has sought compensation of ₹10 lakh each for four injured persons, saying their families should receive support from the Punjab government.
Parvinder Singh Jhota had become widely known for campaigning against drug abuse and for raising concerns over the alleged illegal sale of intoxicating substances. His killing in Mansa triggered protests and public reaction across several parts of Punjab, with his family and supporters demanding a transparent investigation.
The campaign for justice has continued through meetings, demonstrations and other protest programmes. The October 19 statewide action is the latest programme announced by the committee as it continues to press the state government over its demands.
Jhota’s father, former serviceman Bhim Singh, has also remained closely associated with the campaign. The family has repeatedly called for a thorough investigation and action against anyone found responsible in accordance with the law.
The Punjab government has maintained that the case is under investigation and that action will be taken against those found responsible. Allegations made by family members, committee representatives or political leaders remain subject to investigation and should not be treated as established facts unless confirmed by the competent authorities.
With protests planned outside the residences and offices of AAP MLAs and ministers on October 19, attention will now remain on the government’s response and further developments in the investigation into Parvinder Singh Jhota’s killing.
