JALANDHAR, October 8, 2026: Police have launched an investigation after pro-Khalistan slogans were found written on the wall of a house near Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh’s ancestral home in Dosanjh Kalan village of Jalandhar district. A video showing the writing subsequently surfaced on social media and began circulating widely on Thursday.
Contrary to claims circulating with the viral video, the wall on which the slogans were written does not belong to Diljit Dosanjh’s ancestral house. The affected property reportedly belongs to his neighbour, identified as Mukhtiar, and is situated around 100 yards from the singer’s family home.
According to the house owner, the incident occurred at around 1.30 am, when four to five people with their faces covered allegedly reached the area and began writing on the wall using spray paint. Mukhtiar said he woke after noticing the smell of spray paint and confronted the individuals, following which they fled from the spot.
When the wall was examined later, pro-Khalistan messages had allegedly been written on it along with a reference to Diljit Dosanjh. The circumstances have led to speculation that the people involved may have mistaken the neighbouring property for the singer’s ancestral residence, although investigators have not yet confirmed their motive.
The incident was subsequently brought to the attention of local authorities. Members of the village panchayat removed the writing from the wall, while police were informed and began examining the area for evidence.
DSP Bharat Masih reached Dosanjh Kalan along with a police team following the complaint. Police have registered a case against unidentified persons and are examining CCTV cameras installed in and around the village in an attempt to identify those responsible.
Investigators are expected to examine the suspects’ movements before and after the incident, including possible vehicle details and footage from roads leading into and out of Dosanjh Kalan. Police have not yet publicly identified any individual involved in writing the slogans.
The house owner has maintained that he has no political affiliation and that his property had no connection with whatever message the unidentified individuals apparently intended to convey. He also said the spray paint caused damage to the wall.
The incident has attracted particular attention because Dosanjh Kalan, situated in Phillaur subdivision of Jalandhar district, is widely known as the ancestral village of Diljit Dosanjh. Official Jalandhar district records also list Dosanjh Kalan under the Phillaur subdivision.
Police have so far not announced evidence establishing who carried out the act or whether the people involved belonged to any organisation. Any claims regarding the identity, affiliation or motive of those responsible therefore remain unverified until investigators establish them through CCTV footage and other evidence.
The viral social-media claim that slogans were written directly on Diljit Dosanjh’s house is also inaccurate based on information available so far. Police and the affected resident have clarified that the writing appeared on a neighbouring property close to the singer’s ancestral home.
The investigation remains underway, and further action will depend on the identification of the individuals seen in the area and the evidence gathered by police.
