Chandigarh, October 9, 2026: The Punjab Vidhan Sabha will reconvene on October 22, with Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan formally announcing that members of the House will assemble at 11 AM at the Punjab Vidhan Sabha Hall in Vidhan Bhawan, Chandigarh.

The sitting will form part of the 13th Session of the 16th Punjab Vidhan Sabha. The session had earlier been adjourned sine die on August 10 following the conclusion of the previous sitting and will now resume later this month.

According to the announcement, the House has been reconvened under the applicable rules governing the conduct of business in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha.

Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan said members of the Assembly would gather on October 22 to take up matters concerning public interest.

The latest announcement brings clarity to speculation surrounding the next Assembly sitting. Earlier discussions had indicated that the Punjab Government was considering convening the House later in October, but October 22 has now been formally announced as the date for the sitting.

The detailed legislative and business agenda for the October 22 proceedings has not yet been publicly outlined. Matters to be formally taken up in the House are expected to become clearer once the Assembly Secretariat releases the complete programme and list of business.

The upcoming sitting is likely to attract political attention as both the ruling Aam Aadmi Party and opposition parties prepare to raise issues concerning governance and matters affecting residents of the state.

The Assembly provides members with an opportunity to question the government, raise constituency-related concerns and debate legislative and public-interest matters placed before the House.

The October sitting comes a little over two months after the previous proceedings concluded on August 10. During that session, the House considered several legislative and administrative matters involving the Punjab Government.

With the new date now announced, ministers, MLAs and Assembly officials are expected to begin preparations for the proceedings in Chandigarh.

Further clarity regarding Bills, resolutions, questions and other business scheduled for October 22 is expected once the official agenda is circulated to members.

The Assembly Secretariat is also expected to make the necessary administrative and security arrangements ahead of the sitting at Vidhan Bhawan.

The announcement is significant as it formally sets the next date on which Punjab’s elected representatives will come together in the House to discuss public-interest matters and conduct legislative business.
