NEW DELHI, October 7, 2026: At least seven people were injured after a residential building collapsed in northeast Delhi’s Seemapuri area on Wednesday afternoon, triggering a major search-and-rescue operation as emergency teams continued looking for people feared trapped beneath the debris.

The incident was reported at around 3.30 pm near the fish market in Seemapuri. The front portion of the residential structure reportedly came down suddenly, sending debris onto surrounding areas and also affecting portions of adjoining houses.

According to police officials, the collapsed structure was a four-storey residential building measuring around 225 square feet. The impact of the collapse also buried parts of two to three neighbouring houses, complicating rescue operations and raising concerns that more people could be trapped.

Emergency teams immediately began removing debris and searching for survivors. Delhi Fire Service personnel, Delhi Police, civic officials and civil defence teams reached the spot and joined the rescue effort. Local residents were also seen assisting emergency workers during the initial stages of the operation.

Several people were pulled out from the debris and shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. At least seven people, including a young child, were reported injured in the incident as rescue operations continued.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajendra Prasad Meena said some people had already been rescued and sent to hospitals, while authorities suspected that another two to three people could still be trapped underneath the collapsed structure.

Fire tenders and ambulances were deployed at the site as emergency personnel worked to clear the rubble carefully. Rescue teams were attempting to create safe access points through the debris while ensuring that unstable portions of nearby structures did not create further danger.

The collapse also disrupted traffic movement in the surrounding area. Delhi Traffic Police reported congestion around Seemapuri Gol Chakkar, DLF Bhopura and adjoining roads and advised commuters to avoid the affected stretch wherever possible.

People were also requested not to stop vehicles, park or gather close to the accident site, as clear road access was required for ambulances, fire tenders and other rescue vehicles moving in and out of the area.

The precise cause of the collapse had not been established at the time of publication. Authorities are expected to examine the structural condition of the building and other circumstances surrounding the incident once the immediate rescue operation is completed.

Officials will also have to determine whether there were any structural weaknesses, unauthorised alterations or other factors that may have contributed to the collapse. No official conclusion regarding the cause should be drawn until the technical inspection and investigation are completed.

The incident has once again brought building safety in densely populated parts of Delhi into focus. Rescue authorities remained concentrated on locating anyone still trapped and safely removing debris before a detailed structural and administrative investigation begins.

As this remains a developing situation, the number of injured or rescued people could change as emergency teams continue their search. Authorities are expected to issue further information once rescue operations progress and all occupants of the affected structure are accounted for.
