Jalandhar, October 29: A woman sitting outside her home in Jalandhar's Ladhewali area became the victim of a daylight snatching incident after a motorcycle-borne man allegedly grabbed her mobile phone and gold chain before escaping. The stolen belongings are estimated to be worth approximately ₹1.35 lakh. Following the incident, the woman's husband released CCTV footage of the suspect and announced a reward of ₹10,000 for information leading to his identification or apprehension. Police have initiated an investigation and are examining surveillance recordings to trace the suspect.

The victim, identified as Jasvir Kaur, a resident of Ladhewali, said she was sitting outside her residence and using her mobile phone when an unidentified man approached on a motorcycle. According to her account, the rider suddenly moved close to her, snatched the phone from her hand and took the gold chain she was wearing around her neck. Before she could react or seek assistance, the suspect accelerated his motorcycle and escaped from the area.

Jasvir Kaur said the incident happened within moments, leaving her shocked and unable to stop the rider. She immediately informed her husband about what had happened. The family later examined CCTV recordings from cameras installed in the surrounding neighbourhood in an attempt to identify the person responsible. The footage reportedly captured the suspect's movements before and during the incident.

After reviewing the recordings, the victim's husband expressed suspicion that the man had surveyed the locality before carrying out the snatching. According to him, the footage appeared to show the suspect moving through the area and observing the surroundings before targeting his wife, who was sitting alone outside the house. The family believes the individual may have deliberately selected the opportunity when there was nobody nearby to intervene. However, whether the suspect had planned the offence in advance remains to be established by investigators.

The family estimated the combined value of the stolen mobile phone and gold chain at approximately ₹1,35,000. Apart from the financial loss, the incident has caused considerable concern within the household, particularly because the snatching took place immediately outside their residence. The victim's husband said he wanted the individual responsible to be identified quickly and the stolen belongings recovered.

In an attempt to assist the investigation, the husband shared CCTV footage of the suspected snatcher and publicly announced a cash reward of ₹10,000. He stated that the reward would be offered to anyone providing reliable information that helps police identify or apprehend the suspect. The family has appealed to residents who may recognise the individual or have relevant information to contact the authorities rather than confront the suspect themselves.

Police reportedly reached the location after receiving information about the incident and began examining the available evidence. Investigators are reviewing CCTV recordings to establish the suspect's movements and gather identifying details about the motorcycle used in the snatching. The victim's statement and any additional surveillance footage from nearby streets could help police reconstruct the sequence of events.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of residents in neighbourhoods where people regularly spend time outside their homes. The circumstances described by the victim suggest that the alleged snatcher took advantage of a brief opportunity to escape with valuable belongings. The family has urged police to intensify efforts to identify the individual and prevent similar incidents in the locality.

At the time of preparing this report, the suspect's identity had not been officially confirmed, and no arrest or recovery of the stolen items had been reported in the information available. The family continues to seek assistance while police investigate the incident and examine the CCTV evidence.
