Chandigarh, October 12, 2026: Punjab’s final electoral roll has been prepared following the completion of the Special Intensive Revision process, bringing the months-long exercise to update and verify the state’s voter records to an important stage.
According to the final figures, 2,01,00,727 electors are registered in Punjab’s electoral roll. The list covers voters across all 117 Assembly constituencies of the state and will form the updated electoral database for future elections unless subsequent additions, deletions or corrections are made under the continuing electoral-roll process.
The revision exercise involved door-to-door verification by Booth Level Officers, examination of existing voter records and an opportunity for eligible citizens to submit applications for inclusion or correction of their details.
The qualifying date for the revision was October 1, 2026, allowing eligible citizens who had attained the required voting age by that date to seek enrolment in the electoral roll.
A draft electoral roll had earlier been published in August, following which electors were given time to check their entries and submit claims or objections. Election officials then examined those applications before preparing the final list.
The exercise was aimed at identifying outdated or incorrect entries while also providing eligible citizens who were missing from the rolls an opportunity to register. Changes arising from deaths, shifting of residence, duplicate entries and corrections in voter particulars were also part of the verification process.
Publication of the final roll does not permanently close the voter-registration process. An eligible citizen whose name is not included can still use the prescribed electoral process to apply for registration, while existing voters can seek corrections or changes in their details where necessary.
Voters are therefore advised to check their name and polling details rather than assuming that possession of a voter ID card alone confirms their inclusion in the latest electoral roll.
The final publication is particularly significant as Punjab moves closer to its next Assembly election cycle. An updated electoral roll provides the constituency-wise voter database on which polling arrangements and voter eligibility will be based.
The final list also brings greater clarity after weeks of verification, claims and objections connected with the SIR exercise. Any individual case involving inclusion or exclusion, however, remains subject to the procedures available under election law.
With the final roll now prepared, the focus will shift to ensuring that electors verify their details well before the next election and use the available correction or registration process if they find any discrepancy.
