PHAGWARA, October 11, 2026: A 21-year-old student of Lovely Professional University was found dead at a private paying guest accommodation in the Law Gate area of Maheru near Phagwara, prompting a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The student has been identified as Abhishek Patel, a resident of Uttar Pradesh. He was staying at a private PG near the university rather than inside the LPU hostel complex.

The incident came to light during the intervening night of October 10 and 11. Police from the concerned station reached the location after receiving information and began the necessary legal proceedings.

The PG falls under the jurisdiction of Satnampura Police Station, Phagwara. Investigators are gathering information from people associated with the accommodation and examining the circumstances leading up to the student’s death.

The student’s body was subsequently taken to Civil Hospital, Phagwara, where further legal and medical formalities are being carried out.

At this stage, police have not announced a final conclusion regarding the circumstances or reason behind the death. Any claims about a possible motive should therefore be treated cautiously until investigators complete their inquiry.

Police are expected to record statements from people who knew the student and examine any available material that could help establish the sequence of events.

The incident has once again brought attention to the wellbeing of students living away from their families in private accommodation around large educational campuses.

Authorities are expected to release further information after completing the preliminary investigation and necessary legal formalities.
