Dubai, October 1, 2026: The United Arab Emirates has launched a high-level investigation into the serious mid-air incident aboard Flydubai Flight FZ1073, with investigators tasked with determining whether the episode was linked to terrorist activity, planned in advance or carried out under instructions from another person or group.

The flight was travelling from Dubai International Airport to Tel Aviv on September 30 when a violent altercation took place inside the cockpit.

Following the incident, crew members travelling aboard the aircraft intervened and brought the situation under control. The flight was diverted to Tabuk in Saudi Arabia, where it landed safely.

All passengers and crew were accounted for following the emergency landing.

The UAE Attorney-General, Dr Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, has now ordered the formation of a specialised Public Prosecution investigation team to establish exactly what happened aboard the aircraft.

Investigators have been directed to collect evidence, reconstruct the sequence of events and determine the motive behind the incident.

One of the most important questions facing the investigation is whether the episode was the action of an individual acting alone or whether there was any form of advance planning or outside direction.

Authorities will also examine whether the incident had any connection with terrorist activity or a terrorist objective.

At this stage, no such connection has been officially established.

Claims that the incident was a pre-planned plot or that the person involved acted on instructions from another organisation, country or individual therefore remain unproven while the investigation continues.

The investigation is being conducted in coordination with the UAE’s civil aviation authorities and other relevant agencies.

The UAE has jurisdiction over the case because the aircraft is registered in the country and operates under the UAE flag. This means UAE law can apply to alleged offences committed aboard the aircraft even when it is flying outside the country’s territorial boundaries.

The airline has separately confirmed that an altercation took place on the flight deck but has said the reasons and motive behind the incident remain unknown.

It has urged against speculation until investigators establish the facts.

The aircraft’s diversion to Saudi Arabia followed the serious onboard emergency. Despite the situation, the plane was secured and landed safely in Tabuk.

The incident has raised major questions over aviation security, cockpit procedures and how authorities assess possible internal threats aboard commercial aircraft.

As the investigation continues, officials are expected to examine the individuals involved, their communications and other available evidence to determine whether the incident was spontaneous or planned beforehand.

Another key question will be whether anyone outside the aircraft played any role in influencing or directing what happened.

Those questions remain unanswered.

Flydubai has meanwhile temporarily suspended its flights to and from Israel while authorities investigate the incident. The airline said the suspension would remain under review as more information becomes available.

For now, authorities have made clear that the motive has not been established and that conclusions about terrorism, advance planning or outside involvement should wait until evidence has been examined.

The findings of the UAE investigation are expected to determine whether the extraordinary incident aboard FZ1073 was an isolated act or part of a wider planned operation.
