Jalandhar, October 26: Police have reportedly registered an FIR against Praveen Kajla, also known as Samrat, following a complaint filed by a travel agency operator in Jalandhar. The case involves allegations of extortion, criminal intimidation and unauthorised entry into a private office. The complaint was handled by the Bus Stand Police Post under Police Station Division No. 6.
According to the complaint, Azad, identified as the son of Gaurav Gupta and associated with A Dream Overseas at Kadian Tower near the Jalandhar Bus Stand, accused Praveen Kajla of demanding money from him and threatening him when the demand was not met. The complainant alleged that the accused entered his office without permission and attempted to pressure him into making payments.
Bus Stand Police Post in-charge Yuvraj Singh reportedly confirmed that a case had been registered after examining the travel agent's complaint. Praveen Kajla, a resident of Model Town who reportedly identifies himself as chairman of an organisation called Anti-Corruption Human Rights, has been named in the FIR under Sections 308(2), 332(c) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). These provisions relate to alleged extortion, house-trespass with criminal intent and criminal intimidation.
Providing further details, Gagan Pahwa, described as a supporter of the complainant, alleged that Kajla had been targeting travel agents by recording videos of their offices and subsequently using the recordings to pressure them for money. Pahwa claimed that Kajla arrived at A Dream Overseas with several associates a few days before the complaint was submitted and demanded ₹1 lakh from the business operator.
According to Pahwa's allegations, the accused threatened Azad with consequences if the money was not paid. He further claimed that the travel agent initially handed over ₹10,000, after which Kajla and his associates left the premises. However, the complainant allegedly continued facing pressure over the remaining amount.
The complainant's side further alleged that a video concerning the travel agency was subsequently uploaded to social media with misleading claims about the business. According to the allegations, the video was used to intensify pressure on the travel agent, who later made another payment of ₹10,000. The claimed payments total ₹20,000, although their circumstances and supporting financial evidence have not been independently verified.
After allegedly facing repeated demands and intimidation, the travel agency operator approached the police seeking action. The complainant reportedly also submitted CCTV footage from the office, which he claims shows the accused entering the premises and threatening him. Police are expected to examine the recording and other available evidence as part of the investigation.
The travel agent has demanded strict legal action against those allegedly involved. The registration of the FIR marks the beginning of a formal criminal investigation, and the allegations remain subject to police verification and judicial proceedings. No finding of guilt has been established, and the accused's response to the allegations was not available in the information reviewed.
