Ludhiana, October 26: A shopping trip turned into an unpleasant experience for a woman in Ludhiana after two unidentified young women allegedly stole her purse containing approximately ₹6,000 to ₹7,000 from a shop near Gur Mandi in Chaura Bazaar. The incident reportedly occurred on Sunday, October 25, when the victim was shopping with her daughter. The suspected theft was captured by CCTV cameras installed inside the shop.
The victim, identified as Shaili Jain, a resident of Haibowal who is involved in the ladies' suit business, had visited a shop named Trendy outside Gur Mandi to purchase a purse. While examining different handbags for her daughter, she placed her own purse on the shop counter. Two young women subsequently entered the establishment, apparently intending to shop.
According to Jain's account, the two women began looking at the handbags displayed in the shop. During this time, they allegedly examined the zips of her purse, which had been placed nearby. After finding nothing in the first compartment, they reportedly opened another compartment containing approximately ₹6,000 to ₹7,000 in cash.
Jain alleged that the two women exchanged signals after discovering the money and eventually took her purse when they found an opportunity. In an apparent attempt to avoid suspicion, the pair purchased another purse worth ₹350 before leaving the shop.
The alleged theft came to light when Jain finished shopping and prepared to leave. She noticed that her purse was missing and immediately searched the surrounding area. Despite raising the alarm, she was unable to locate her belongings.
Following the incident, the shopkeeper reviewed footage from the CCTV cameras installed inside the establishment. The recordings reportedly showed the two suspected women taking the purse and leaving the premises. The footage helped the victim understand how her belongings had disappeared during the shopping visit.
Jain said the two women appeared to be ordinary shoppers, which made their alleged actions difficult to anticipate. The incident has highlighted concerns about theft in busy shopping establishments, where customers may temporarily place their personal belongings on counters while examining merchandise.
The available information does not establish whether a formal police complaint has been registered or whether the suspects have been identified. Further confirmation from the authorities is awaited.
